Canadian Armed Forces curling teams will be competing in Moose Jaw this week.

15 Wing Moose Jaw is hosting the 2022 Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Canada West Curling Championship, Tuesday through Thursday at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Teams will be coming from Comox (BC), Cold Lake (AB), Edmonton (AB), Winnipeg (MB) and Moose Jaw (SK).

"This being the first indoor championship that the Canadian Armed Forces has held since the COVID pause, is a significant boost to the morale and welfare of the members, to be having an opportunity to return to sport in a big way," said Chantelle Rouault-Gibson, Sports and Facilities Coordinator with Personnel Support Programs at 15 Wing Moose Jaw.

Teams will play a minimum of four round-robin games, with the top four advancing to semi-final games. Games will be played at 9:15 am, 1:30 pm and 7:00 pm daily. The championship final will be held on Thursday at 1:30 pm.

Moose Jaw previously hosted the CAF Regional Curling Championship in 2002 and 2007 but this is the first time it's being held at the Moose Jaw Events Centre.

Spectators are welcome and there is no fee to attend.

15 Wing Moose Jaw Team Members include Capt. Greg Heffren, Capt. Jean Doyon, MCpl. Jay McLellan, Cpl. Jonathan Benson.

Also of note, local Moose Javian, Master Warrant Officer (retired) Barry Silk, a five-time CAF regional curling champion, will assist the Jury of Appeal, to act as an advisor and to rule on any disputes that may occur during the competition. Sergeant (retired) Moose Gibson, of Moose Jaw, also a wheelchair curling Canadian champion, will attend as the chief official for the event.
