Council approves the application for provincial funding for the multiplex as they calculate a possible $9 million coming to Moose Jaw.

By a vote of 6-1 City Council has approved an application to the provincial government for funding for the MultiPlex and for the Kinsmen Sportsplex Upgrades.

According to the application we could received 9 million dollars based on 15 percent of the cost of the project, plus 50 dollars per person in Moose Jaw and surrounding area.

The application includes the hockey arena, curling rink, soccer pitch, and walking track according to Mayor Dale McBain. "I believe that we haven’t begun the project yet and we can always downsize if our partners do not come forward but we cannot upsize. The best advice that we have had from our provincial counterparts is to apply at the maximum that we think we are going to need and that's what we're doing with this application."

This application will be forwarded to the province as soon as possible since the deadline is next Monday.

The Kinsmen Sportsplex upgrades were added at the last minute with the hope of receiving some cash since the Building Communities Grant Program does not limit the city to just one project.
