Expect to pay even more in taxes this year after City Hall has approved a tax hike and the local school board is expecting one.

As we prepare to send more money to City Hall for the municipal portion of property taxes in Moose Jaw it looks like we'll be sending more money to the local school division as well.

The Prairie South School Board is currently working on their budget with a closed door meeting set for the end of the month according to Board Chair Gord Stewart.

"You know there's that whole thing about school closures out there and we have to keep that in mind as we set our mill rate. At the time when I was talking to people out in the communities I was saying we would save some money by closing schools but I still was predicting an increase in the mill rate and I still feel that."

Stewart expects to be able to announce what their plans are for the mill rate on May 1st.
