Dawn Luhning and Mike Eason hit the campaign trail this week as we get closer and closer to Nomination Day in Moose Jaw.

With just over a week left until the close of nominations, paperwork is starting to pile up at City Hall. Yet another candidate has official entered the race for City Council here in Moose Jaw.

28 year old Mike Eason wants to find incentives to keep young people here to help expand our city. "Well, maybe we have to give businesses more incentives on staying here or more incentives on coming here. Like, maybe more of a tax break and good tax breaks for people. Maybe we have to give more and offer something better."

You may recognize Eason from the last civic election when he ran for mayor or maybe from the last federal election when he ran for the NDP in the riding of Cypress Hills Grassland.

Is back to the campaign trail for Moose Jaw's only current female City Councillor. As we mentioned earlier, Incumbent Dawn Luhning filed her nomination papers and is ready to tackle the big issues in this civic election campaign.

Luhning says pushing Moose Jaw forward in an economically and fiscally responsible way is a big issue for the next council. "We also have to address, not only municipally but on a provincial level, keeping the youth. I think there are focus groups that we could work with. Like, lets sit down with the youth and say 'what are you doing after high school and what are you doing after university?' In my eyes the bigger issue for the city is growing the tax base and how do we keep our young people here?"

Luhning is just finishing her first term on City Council and says she would like to stay on and deal with some unfinished business, like the multiplex.
