The Moose Jaw WINMAR AAA Warriors would give up five unanswered goals in the third period en route to a 6-1 loss to the Prince Albert Mintos on the road.

The game was tied 1-1 through two periods, but the Mintos were able to flip the switch and find the back of the net five times in the final frame.

Connor Miller was the lone goal scorer for Moose Jaw in Sunday’s game and the whole weekend, as he picked up his ninth of the season and fourth on the powerplay.

Moose Jaw falls to 7-10-0-3 on the season but remain in seventh place in the Saskatchewan Male U18 AAA Hockey League.

The Warriors would draw first blood after an early penalty by the Mintos. Nine seconds into the man advantage, after a faceoff win, Grady Hoffman was able to find Miller on the back door for the one-time and he didn't miss putting the Warriors in front 1-0 not even three minutes into the game.

Hoffman and Dylan Duzan would pick up assists on the play.

Moose Jaw would keep that 1-0 lead until just over halfway through the first period. Kelan Simmonds would be the recipient of a cross-ice pass from Konnor Watson and bury it past a sprawling Ryan Hicks to tie the game 1-1.

That’s how the first period would end with the game tied 1-1, with Moose Jaw leading in shots 11-5.

Though both teams had chances in the second period neither team were able to take the lead and the game stayed tied at 1-1. Shots were 19-14 for Moose Jaw after 40 minutes.

Coming into the third period tied at 1-1, Prince Albert turned on the gas and came out and began their scoring explosion.

It all started with Will Whitter as he was able to bury a rebound on the powerplay just over two minutes into the third period to take the 2-1 lead.

Just over a minute later the Mintos would extend their lead to 3-1. It started in the Prince Albert end as Bryce Boughen would beat the goaltender but not the post, then Logan Pickford would take the loose puck and skate end-to-end and fire one through the pads of Hicks as he was falling.

At the 7:45 mark of the third period the Mintos would add another one. Raydr Wallington would get the puck to Van Taylor on the goal line and Taylor is able to cut into the front of the net and outwait Hicks to make it 4-1.

As a last ditch effort the Warriors pulled their goalie for the extra attacker, but that doesn’t lead to go a goal for Moose Jaw. Konnor Watson with 2:46 left in the game would fire from the other end and score the empty net goal, making it 5-1.

Prince Albert wasn’t done there thought. On a late powerplay for the Warriors, a defensive zone turnover would allow Abinet Klassen in on Hicks and sneak it past the goalie and the far post to solidify the win for the Mintos.

The final shots on net were 29-21 for Prince Albert.

Ryan Hicks would make 24 saves in the loss, while Brady Holtvogt stopped 20 of 21 for his sixth win of the season.

The Warriors finished 1-for-4 on the powerplay on Sunday afternoon, and Prince Albert went 1-for-6 with the extra man.

Moose Jaw will look to rebound this Thursday as they travel west to Swift Current to take on the Legionnaires for the second time this season.
