Wymark-area farmer Marvin Wiens is running for the Liberal Party in Cypress Hills-Grasslands for Monday's Federal Election.

He says one of his biggest concerns as far as the agriculture industry is concerned is public research.

"We have one of the best research stations going in Swift Current. We used to have thirty-seven scientists there, we now have eleven. This present government is talking about knocking down a beautiful building and building a smaller one - that's just fundamentally wrong," Wiens said.

He adds the ongoing challenges with grain transportation is also a major issue, saying western Canadian farmers have lost five billion dollars from trying to move their grain.

"We need to provide either regulation to CPR or we need to provide competition. With the loss of the Canadian Wheat Board and its role in transportation, CPR has too much power and something needs to be done-  and the federal Conservative party has done nothing to address that," he said.

Also running in the riding are incumbent Conservative M-P David Anderson, NDP candidate Trevor Peterson, and William Caton of the Green Party.

Polls on Monday will be open from 7:30am to 7:30pm.
