Lexi Hicks is the 2014 High School Rodeo Queen

Monday marked the High School Rodeo Finals at Canadian Western Agribition in Regina.

Young Cowboys and cowgirls from around the province provided some top notch competition in the arena as they competed for those shiny Agribition buckles.

Lexi Hicks from Mortlach took part in the High School Rodeo and took 1st place in the short go of the Ladies Barrel Racing. Hicks is also the Saskatchewan High School Rodeo Queen and travels to various events to advertise High School Rodeo and promote the sport of rodeo and the western lifestyle.

"I talk a lot about the educational purposes of high school rodeo, and the animal welfare purposes," she said. "I like to start out with just the basics... where rodeo came from, how it's grown over the years and where I see it in the future, and I like to talk about how a lot of what we do in the rodeo arena is no different from what we do at the pasture."

Hicks and has been busy on the road this year travelling to Rock Springs, Wyoming and Nanton, Alberta to promote Rodeo.

The CCA Finals Rodeo is also underway at Agribition, with performances nightly at the Brandt Centre until Saturday.
