Grain transportation should be a key agricultural issue with federal candidates.

Bill Gehl is Chair of the Saskatchewan Wheat Development Commission and says farmers need to have more input.

"We're suggesting that farmers need to be at the table. There is no table right now for the negotiations to develop a good handling transportation system that's going to serve farmers' needs," he said.

A recent report by U of S Ag Economist shows during that in the last couple of years farmers have lost more than $5 billion dollars.

The loss according to the report is a direct result of elevated export basis levels, which was driven primarily by a lack of grain handling and transportation capacity relative to the size of the 2013 crop.
