It’s important to “Focus on the 90%”.

That was the message from keynote speaker Darci Lang at the Swift Current and District Chamber of Commerce Farmer Appreciation Night.

Lang talked about “Focusing on the 90%” in our life.

“I think we literally have to wake up and say what’s good here? What do I enjoy? What are the most positive aspects? You know, seeing the sunrise, hearing the meadowlark, owning your own land and just all those aspects of why they wanted to do it in the first place. And again as I keep going back to, being proud of the fact they are feeding the world.”

She adds it’s especially important in Agriculture when talking to the next generation.

“The first thing we need to do is make it look remotely exciting or interesting because the youth of today do not want to do something that doesn’t make them happy. So I think we need to model to the youth that it is an admirable profession, it’s something we are supper proud of, and again like I preached here tonight, change the way we tell the story of farming. You know, there’s lots of parts which are very difficult but there is so much that’s great and that’s the story we need to tell and the youth need to hear it.”

Lang adds it’s important to tell people who work with us on the farm or in business just how much we appreciate the work they do and thank them for that.

She says in turn they feel better about themselves, the work they do and will have more of an interest in doing it.
