The recent moisture combined with warmer weather has helped boost crop development in the Province.

Saskatchewan Agriculture’s Weekly Crop Report shows the majority of the fall rye and winter wheat is in the shot-blade to heading stage, spring cereals in the emergence to tillering stage, canola and mustard in the emerging to seedling stage and pulse crops in the emergence to vegetative stage of crop development.

Cropping Management Specialist Daphne Cruise says producers are busy checking crops, rolling pulses and controlling weeds and insects:

"Cutworms and Flea Beetles have been the insects causing the most amount of crop damage throughout the province. It looks like, depending on what area we are talking about we might be getting more towards the tail end of the cutworm damage, they should be starting to pupate here in the next little while. With that said though, many fields can have many species of cutworms so we may see some of those later stage worms still in the feeding stages," she said.

Cruise says at this point 98% of the Provincial Crop has been seeded.
