Agriculture and Agri-Food (AAFC) Minister Marie-Claude Bibeau will tour farms today in the drought-stricken Interlake Region.

A media event will be held at the Forks, where Bibeau will highlight ongoing support measures for Manitoba and Canadian farmers impacted by extreme weather.

Manitoba Beef Producers (MBP) will be part of the tour.

"There's just no denying how dire the situation is and being able to have her meet with individuals directly affected by it and forced to sell their animals to address it, I think it really is important in order to really make the point. I'm heartened by the fact that she's making the trip," said MBP President Tyler Fulton.

Fulton says there's some aspects of an AgriRecovery program that they think is really necessary and one that the board agrees on.
