Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz announced the details of a new $50-million Agricultural Innovation Program at the SARM Midterm Convention in Regina this past week.

Ritz says the program was announced in the spring budget, and will help commercialize the great ideas and innovations from prairie farmers, and help improve the economy as a whole.

"When you start to spend money like this to drive innovation, that creates jobs and creates product flow that helps drive the economy. That's what the underpinning of this is about. When you look at everything that was put forward in our budget that was campaigned on, because we weren't able to move forward on that in the spring, but we brought it back in and put it into play and this is one of the great parts of that."

Farmers can apply for the program or get more information by visiting the Agriculture Canada's website.
