Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz was on hand for the official opening of Western Canada’s Outdoor Farm Expo – Ag In Motion.

The event which features over 300 exhibitors and interactive field and equipment demonstrations and plot tours  is located on 320 acres of land near Langham.

Ritz says it’s the first major agricultural trade show to be developed in North America in 23 years.

"It's right here in Central Saskatchewan. If you look at the diversity of agriculture in Saskatchewan, they certainly picked the right spot. I'm excited to see this, the interactivity of that, all of the innovation that's here. The farmers are embracing that as they look for efficiencies in their own operation, so it's great to see all this in motion."

Ritz says Western Canada’s Outdoor Farm Expo provides a unique experience for everyone to see what agriculture is about and for farmers to see the latest technology at work.

"This is hands on. It's not like you're in a big arena - winter shows are fantastic, but this, you can actually see and smell and hear and get the size and scope of what it is that agriculture is all about. There's a huge educational component in this as well to let our urban cousins know exactly what it is that we do."

Ag in Motion runs today through Thursday and show hours are 8:30 to 5:30 daily.
