The Prairie Oat Growers Association is holding its 18th Annual Conference at the Temple Garden’s Mineral Spa today in Moose Jaw.

The group President Art Enns says overall the Oat acreage across the Prairies has been holding adding we’ve seen some decent prices.

He notes there’s some good interest in the oat industry.

“We’ve got our transportation going back to normal and we’ve been able to get our product to the mills in the US and into Mexico. Is it ideal yet, no but it’s a vast improvement which has really helped our industry to be able to focus on where to grow and where to move to.”

Enns who hails out of the Red River Valley in Manitoba says they’ve got a great lineup of speakers.

“Speaking on agronomy and weather and also on market development, and some of the issues that oat growers and the oat industry is facing. In the evening we have our banquet and then we have a great speaker. She has set up an oatmeal shop in New York and is doing just a tremendous job.”

Outside of our domestic oat market we ship oats into the U-S and Mexico.

Enns notes they have representatives from Venezuela at this year’s event who are interested in talking with producers.
