Starting Sunday and Monday, Main Street in Moose Jaw is going to be blocked off in two different areas.

Starting Sunday, Thatcher Drive to Town And Country Drive on Main Street North will be blocked off as CN Rail works to repair the crossing.

The work is expected to close one of the busiest intersections in the city for an extended period of time.

“We're hoping the whole project takes seven days to be honest. Ten days is the guide to expect for disruption. CN's schedule is about three days,” said Darrin Stephanson, director of public works and utilities.

“They'll be coming in, bring in materials and equipment to the area and I think their schedule work is really on the Wednesday-Thursday. We're really hoping they stay on track and are out of there because that will allow us to get right in after them and get some of the paving done."

During that time, there will be detours to Ninth Avenue Northeast and Ninth Avenue Northwest.

“We've got a fair amount of paving that will be going on after the tracks are finished as well as a lot of storm upgrades and improvements that we are doing in that area,” Stephanson said.

The storm upgrades include three catch basins being repaired and the installation of two flat surface storm drainage grates on the north and southbound driving lanes and a high-capacity catch basin will be added to the intersection.

Meanwhile, on Monday the intersection of Main Street and High Street West will be closed as cast iron water main replacement will be taking place. It is expected to be closed until the week of July 13.

The intersection of High Street West and First Avenue will be reopened to traffic during the week with two-way traffic remaining on High Street.

Water main replacements will also continue on Fairford Street East with the zero to 200 blocks being closed to traffic.
