A number of highways are closed in northern Saskatchewan, and some communities are under evacuation orders due to wildfires.

The Saskatchewan Public Safety Agency is reporting there are 139 wildfires in the province, nine of which are contained. The fires have prompted the evacuation of Narrow Hills Provincial Park as well as Lac La Ronge Provincial Park. The community of Whelan Bay has been evacuated, and the fires prompted the evacuation of home residents in the White Swan Lake area.

The fires have forced the closure of Highway 106 from 30 kilometres north of Smeaton to the junction with Highway 120. Another stretch of Highway along 106, from the junction with Highway 911 to the junction with Highway 135 is closed as well. Also closed is Highway 165 from the junction with Highway 912 to the intersection with Highway 2, Highway 969 from Timber Bay to the Junction with Highway 165, Highway 102 from the northern edges of Lac La Ronge Provincial Park to the vicinity of McLennan Lake, cutting off access to Grandmothers Bay.

Smoke from the fires is blowing into the rest of the province, which has resulted in air quality statements being issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada for much of Saskatchewan. This includes Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Humboldt, Kindersley, Rosetown, and many other communities. In the southern parts of the province, the air quality is also accompanied by extreme heat.
