The 28th annual Festival of Trees was held over the weekend, this year at a new venue.

Setting up at the Mosaic Place Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, Saturday evening included a dinner made by Top Chef Canada winner Dale McKay, Emcee Mayor Fraser Tolmie, and live entertainment. The weekend was topped off with a brunch on Sunday morning.

Executive Director of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, Kelly McElree, says the weekend was a huge success.

MJHF Executive Director Kelly McElree addresses the crowd on Saturday night

"It was an inspiring experience to see the community come together like this to truly help women in this community. Over 700 women each year in this province are diagnosed with breast cancer, and because of the generosity of Moose Jaw businesses and volunteers who worked tirelessly, we raised over $372,000 Saturday night."

"I know there were many doctors at Festival of Trees, doctors who have been here for many years, young doctors, doctors that are moving to Moose Jaw, they've seen the generosity of this community. There's not an area of our hospital that hasn't been touched by donors, so we're just thankful to all of the volunteers that made Festival of Trees the success that it is."

Throughout the 28 years of Festival of Trees, over $4.3 million dollars has been raised for the health foundation, and this year's donations were enough to officially make their mammography matters campaign a success.

"It is going to go to the next generation of mammography technology. We are so excited that we raised enough money to bring that here. It will be at the hospital in the future and it will be helping women for another generation."

The new cutting-edge equipment will help provide a clearer, more defined digital image that can detect breast cancer with pinpoint accuracy. The new mammography machine will also feature improvements to patient comfort during the examination.
