The Moose Jaw Warriors scored two power-play goals Saturday and picked up a 2-1 win over the Brandon Wheat Kings at Westoba Place to wrap up the 2019 WHL Pre-Season.

The Warriors had their best start of the pre-season, they were smart and played hard inside their zone, they were fast coming up the ice in transition, and they were puck hungry on the fore-check in the Wheat Kings zone which led to turnovers, quality scoring chances, and a 16-9 advantage on the shot clock.

With under three minutes left in the period the Warriors were working on the power-play.  A Brandon forward got caught up with one of the referees and lost control the puck, 16-year-old Eric Alarie pounced on the puck and skated from the right boards to the high slot where he put a great shot past veteran goalie Jiri Patera to give the Warriors a 1-0 lead.

Brandon was able to tie the game at 6:03 of the second period when Lynden McCallum scored on a back-hand on the right-side of the Moose Jaw crease.

The Warriors took the lead at 11:46 of the second period while working on the power-play.

Calder Anderson had the puck on the right wall and moved it below the goal line for Bryden Kiesman who then set up Cade Hayes inside the left circle where he scored his third of the pre-season.

The third period saw the teams tighten up a little bit as they combined for us 11 shots in the frame.

Brandon had three power-play’s in the frame but the Warriors dug in and held their ground and fought for 2-1 win to end the pre-season.

Moose Jaw outshot the Wheat Kings 35-27, they were 2-for-6 on the power-play, and the were 3-for-3 on the penalty kill.

The Warriors finish the 2019 WHL Pre-Season with a record of 2-5.  16-year-old Eric Alarie led the team in scoring with five goals and ten points in seven games, 19-year-old Carson Denomie had two goals and four points in five games, and Ryder Korczak had a goal and four points in three games.
