It was a solid weekend of basketball here at Peacock and Central at the senior girls invitational, with 16 teams from across the province taking part.

Prince Albert Carlton defeated North Battleford Comp 76-65 in the A final Saturday night.

Peacock started the weekend with a 51-37 win over Melville and a 57-25 win over Melfort. They then lost 66-33 to the eventual champions from Carlton before winning 76-40 over Swift Current in the third-place game.

Central began their tournament with a 78-55 win over Middle Lake before dropping a 48-33 decision to Swift Current. Central rebounded with a 66-31 win over Regina’s Sheldon Williams before then beating Estevan 77-72 in the fifth-place game.

Vanier dropped a 70-56 opening game to Estevan and came back to win 62-24 over Regina O’Neill in their second game. They beat Lumsden 56-49 in the consolation semifinal before losing the consolation final 71-42 to Weyburn.

Tuesday night sees a full day of high school senior basketball action as the regular season officially begins the second half. Vanier is at Central girls at 6:20 p.m. and the boys at 8 p.m., while Peacock is at B.C.A. girls at 6:20 p.m. and Peacock is at the Assiniboia boys at 5:50 p.m.
