Michael Borst stepped up in a big way for the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Saturday night.

Making his first start on the mound in over four years, Borst struck out four over six innings to help Moose Jaw to a 10-2 win over the Regina Red Sox.

"The last time I started was high school and I threw a little bit in college but I know we're low on arms right now and we need some guys to fill it up, so I just believed in myself, my teammates believed in me, I had a good group of guys behind me to support me and I just kept going out there and wanted to win for them," said Borst.

Borst's six innings were the most thrown by a starter for the Millers this season. He gave up two runs in the second inning, but settled in after that, sitting down 12 of the last 15 batters he faced.

"Once the nerves settled, I was lucky enough to keep the pitches going, my catcher was doing a great job behind the plate, he called a good game, so it was nice to get back on this winning track," said Borst, who helped out his cause by going 2-for-4 with two RBI in the win.

The victory snapped a four-game losing skid for the Millers, which included a 10-3 loss in Regina on Friday night, and puts their record at 5-5 this season in the Western Canadian Baseball League.

After Regina opened the scoring, Moose Jaw responded with 10 unanswered runs, including five in the fifth. Infielder Blake Gallagher drove in one during the fifth with a double and he finished 3-for-5 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored to lead the offence for Moose Jaw.

"It feels great, especially against Regina and coming back off a four-game losing streak," said Gallagher. "Everyone wanted to get back into the win column, so everyone was firing on all cylinders, pitching, defence and hitting."

Centre fielder Eric Marriott finished 3-for-3 with three runs and two walks out of the lead-off spot, while left fielder Alex Orenczuk provided some spark in the nine-hole, going 2-for-5 with a run and two RBI.

Third baseman Geordie McDougall was also 2-for-3 with two runs and two walks in the win.

Getting back into the win column to end the week was huge for the Millers, who have Sunday and Monday off to regroup before another busy week of action.

"A lot of the guys have been down about the way that they've been pitching, the way they've been hitting, tonight is definitely is going to help us flip this around," said Borst.

The Millers open a three-game set with the Okotoks Dawgs on Tuesday at Ross Wells Park.

Millers Notes… The Millers lost pitcher/infielder Casey Zarr for the rest of the season. Zarr has a very rare blood type and returned home to be a bone marrow donor, according to Millers head coach Rich Sorensen. Moose Jaw is looking at bringing in a couple more pitchers to help fill the void.
