On paper, the first place Moose Jaw Warriors shouldn't have had too much problem blowing out the next-to-last place Yorkton Maulers. But the Warriors won 3-2 Sunday afternoon at Mosiac Place in a game that was a lot closer because of the solid game Yorkton played.

"They've played us hard in Yorkton too," said Warriors head coach Trevor Weisgerber. "I'm kind of shocked that they only have three wins for how hard they play. They have some skilled guys and they work. Their goaltender obviously played very well. We're just fortunate we had a few goals on him."

Sunday, the Warriors outshot the Maulers 59-23 in the win, with Atley Calvert, Kirk Mullen and Evan Callaghan scoring the Warriors' goals. Chase Coward stopped 21 shots in the Moose Jaw net.

"We had lots of Grade A's and we had a few posts," Weisgerber said. "It's just one of those games where you keep battling and you get a bounce here or there and keep that lead."

Saturday, the Warriors won 4-1 and outshot Yorkton 45-21. Calvert, Callaghan, Mullen and Austin Reschny scored the Warriors' goals. Coward stopped 20 in the Warriors' net.

The Warriors are now six points on top of the league, with their next game Thursday night at home to the Notre Dame Argos.
