Is Mother Nature a help, or a hindrance? Throughout the spring and summer the cool, wet weather conditions stunted the growing season and pushed back harvest operations. Come September, summer weather arrives and helps with harvest when producers needed it most.

Near perfect weather conditions have producers pushing to get the crop in the bin. More sunny, warm harvesting weather is needed to get the 2009 crop off in decent shape.

"Province-wide we're looking at 32 per cent of the crop in the bin," said Saskatchewan Agriculture's Grant McLean. Although, some areas of southern and south-western Saskatchewan harvest could be finished next week.

"Locally we were able to get the majority of the peas and lentils up and a good bite on some of the cereals. I think with this warm weather we're going to see a bigger portion of this crop rounded up, particularly locally." McLean said yields and grades are also really looking good.
