How will the city grow? What's the plan for bicycle lanes? Is there a way for solar energy to be used or maybe the wind? Questions like that could soon be answered as City Hall has now presented the official Community Plan for Moose Jaw to our elected officials. The plan is like a road map for development.

"What we want to do is to be able to have efficient, sustainable, secure growth in the city," said Mayor Dale McBain. "We want to look at the residential area, the commercial, the industrial, our community services, transportation and the environment. There are a lot of things that are covered off in this plan."

The 71 page document outlines when its appropriate for apartments to be changed into condos, how Moose Jaw could see a population of 40,000 people and even an agenda to replace retiring workers. "It really is serious work, it is the future of the City of Moose Jaw and that's why we are giving it some really serious consideration," McBain said.

Moose Jaw hasn't had a plan like this since the 1970's. Right now council is reviewing the document prepared by a consultant for City Hall to see if there are any areas they want to re-write, delete completely or add before accepting it.
