Moose Jaw's Central Collegiate was alive with pride Friday morning. Students, teachers and alumni proudly showed off their crimson and gold colours as they kicked off the countdown to the school's 100th anniversary reunion.

Central's 100th reunion is exactly 402 days away, and to celebrate, the school hosted a program featuring guest speakers, the Central Collegiate choir, an open house and a barbecue. "The organizing committee has done a phenomenal job pulling things together", said Principal Scott Williamson.

"We're still in the planning phase, one thing we'd like to do is engage our present day student body, getting them to do some special projects, to do some PR with this whole thing", Williamson said.

Willis Wingert was on hand at the event Friday. Wingert taught at Central for 31 years and says he has fond memories of his time there. "When I started off here in 1969 it was a very tough, disciplined school. My whole career was here at Central. Came here as a young teacher and one of the highlights was that I met my wife here".

Wingert has seen his fair share of reunions, too. "I was here for 60th anniversary and also the 75th and at the 60th anniversary it was interesting I was in one of the classrooms and an elderly couple came in, husband and wife and they were both in the 1910 graduating class, the very first one and I thought that was kind of unique".

The 100 year reunion will be celebrated July 8th-11th, 2010, and will be held at a number of venues around the city. Click here for more information about the event.
