Whole Grains Are Good!
You'd be surprised just how good whole grains are. Benefits include improved heart health and digestion. That would explain wht there is growing interest in whole products.

"Research is showing when you're using whole grain in products rather than refining it down to white flour you're leaving in many of the beneficial health benefits in the grain", said Lisa Nemeth, the Canadian Wheat Board's Manager of Technical Services. She recently travelled to the United Kingdom for  the Whole Grain Global Summit.

Nemeth says the Wheat Board needs to be aware of the benefits of whole grains, and find ways to promote Canadian grains."We think that we need to keep an eye on this new market and be aware of where Canadian grains fit in this and the benefits they can provide".

She says they are currently working on a project with the Canadian International Grains Institute incorporating food barley. "They are working on formulating bakery products such as bagels and tortillas and donuts". Nemeth adds the project allows them to work with barley and determine the nutritional profiles of different barley varieties.
