Watching the forecast is what most farmers have been doing recently, and most of them have found in frustrating. All of them have been hearing "rain, showers, scattered showers, and a chance of showers" in the forecast for a full week now, which can make harvest tough. There could be some relief in sight to start off the new week. You can click the five day forecast link on the home page for a complete look at forecast conditions. Moisture is something that's different depending on where you go. Overall, we had a hot, dry summer in 2007 and we actually wanted more moisture. This summer, we got it. Some areas didn't get enough, some got the right amount, some got too much. A wide range of moisture during the growing season across the Saskatchewan grainbelt. Out of 250 locations, the wettest spot was a farm in the R.M. of Moosomin, east of Regina near the Manitoba boundary. The farm recorded 391 millimetres of precipitation, almost 16 inches since the start of April. By contrast, the driest spot was a farm in the northeast near Tisdale, with just 128 millimetres of rain. That's just over 5 inches. |
