It was the biggest game of the season for The Green and White. They needed a win to snap a two game losing skid and they needed to distance themselves from second place in the West Division.
Quarterback Michael Bishop started for the first time in a Saskatchewan Roughrider's uniform and turned in a decent outing, scoring the first major of the game, but it wasn't the offence that won the game for the Riders.
The defence was outstanding as they shut down the Winnipeg offence, limiting the bombers to just two field goals on the way to a 19-6 decision.
Head Coach Ken Miller says the defence came to prove a point
"They waned to prove how good they are so they wanted to make sure they did the things the way they were coached do to do them. they wanted to make sure they were gap sound on the front, we wanted to make sure we controlled the line of scrimmage, we wanted to make sure we were cohesive in our secondary coverage, and those things really did fit together."
The Riders will pack up and head to Winnipeg this weekend for Sunday afternoon's Banjo Bowl which kicks off at 2 o'clock. |
