The Saskatchewan's Coyote Control Rebate is now done. Agriculture Minister Bob Bjornerud said close to 40,000 coyotes have been killed since last fall.

"Last year there was only about 16,000 coyotes harvested in the province through the normal process with hunters and trappers out there. That number has gone up dramatically so I think to that extent it's certainly worked."

Under the pilot program, which was introduced at the request of producers, the provincial government paid hunters $20 per coyote killed. The rebate was offered to address an increase in livestock losses due to coyotes.

In addition to that program, the Ministry has also brought in the wildlife compensation program where producers are paid 100 per cent of the losses they have.
