It's a project that only takes a few minutes to complete and can change the life of a child in a developing country. In Moose Jaw it's time for Operation Christmas Child once again. That's where people pack shoe boxes with gifts and have them delivered to less fortunate children around the world just in time for Christmas.
Last year, the Friendly City put together over 2,400 gifts. "I think that's pretty remarkable," said local volunteer Bud Guidos. "One of our coordinators had gone to Nicaragua and she was brought to tears when she saw the joy on the faces of the kids receiving these gifts. For some kids, it's the first gift they have ever received." Guidos said you can pack shoe boxes with things like school supplies, toys, stuffed animals and small musical instruments. But, he reminds of a few things that shouldn't go in. "Toothpaste, food and chewy, soft candy, used items and decks playing cards. Liquids or items that could leak, melt or freeze. Things that could scare or harm a child and things that involve war... things which they don't need." We're asked to have the gifts dropped off at the International Bible College by Saturday, November 21st so they can start making their journey around the world. Shoe boxes themselves are available at locations over the city. |
