The tiny red poppy is the national symbol of remembrance and with Remembrance Day right around the corner, the Royal Canadian Legion's annual poppy campaign is back.
Starting this weekend the Ladies Auxiliary, the Army and Navy vets and all of the cadet groups will be selling poppies and different locations around Moose Jaw. Poppies can also be found in local businesses as well. "Over the past few years the citizens of Moose Jaw and the surrounding area have been more than generous and we hope that continues," said Campaign Chair Ethel Schmidt. "Not one cent of the proceeds goes out of town, it all goes to local groups and everyone from the community benefits from it." Last year $18,000 was donated to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. The Legion also purchased a bike for the Timothy Eaton Centre and helped out cadets on a number of their projects. |
