If you have a combination smoke/CO alarm made by Kidde NightHawk in your house... you may need to check it when you get home as there has been a recall on some models.

It appears some of the KN-COSM-IBCA and KN-COSMICA models that were manufactured between June 1, 2004 and March 2011 have become defective after a number of years.

"The alarm can fail to chirp when it has reached it's 7 year end of life... if you did have a fire or carbon monoxide in your house, it may not alert you," explained Rod Klippenstein, the Fire Prevention Officer for Moose Jaw.

He advises people who have this product in their homes to call Kidde Canada at 1-855-239-0490 and depending on the date of when it was manufactured receive a new one or be given a discount for a new alarm.

"The Moose Jaw Fire Department can not over emphasize the importance of a working smoke alarm in your house. Current code requires one smoke alarm per bedroom, you should have at least one smoke alarm per floor outside your bedroom doors. We recommend that you test your smoke alarms every month and replace the batteries every year."

In Canada roughly 1.5 million smoke/co alarms of the recalled models have been sold at various locations.
