Council flip-flops on last week's decision to hold a vote on a possible tax increase to pay for the multiplex project.

A lot of people were left scratching their heads Monday night after an about face by Moose Jaw City Council, again, when it comes to the multiplex.

Last week we brought you the story of city council wanting to hold a second plebiscite on the project and a possible tax increase to pay for it. Well Monday, they reversed that idea and voted down the plebiscite motion, for now.

We spoke with Councillor Dawn Luhning following the meeting. "I don't agree with going to a referendum on the motion that happened last Thursday. I've stayed with my same position from the beginning that I don't believe we should be going out to the electorate for every decision that we have to make..."

But that wasn't the case last week when Luhning and 4 other council members supported going to the electorate to ask if a tax increase was appropriate to pay for the multiplex.

Al Schwinghamer was the only one to oppose it and Darin Chow was absent. Monday night, everyone but Brian Swanson opposed the motion and halted the plebiscite.
