Telling the story of Thelma Pepper's life through photography, Amy Jo Ehman's new book 'Thelma: A Life in Pictures' has become an instant bestseller in the province.

Author Amy Jo Ehman

Pepper was born in 1920 and lived in Saskatoon. The book chronicles the life of Pepper, who - like her father and grandfather - was passionate about photography, with the book reflecting on 100 years of life, love, and pictures.

Ehman explains what kind of photography is captured in the book.

"She was really interested in rural life in Saskatchewan, and women who had been the mothers and daughters of settlers and prairie farms, and how they managed to build communities and families for themselves back in the early days and the years of the depression. She took beautiful photos. "

Ehman says the book has been a big hit since it was released in October.

"It immediately went on the bestseller list at McNally Robinson which is the main independent book store in Saskatoon. That was so gratifying, there were so many preorders that it was immediately on the bestseller list the minute that it arrived, and it's been on the bestseller list since it got there, which is just so gratifying as an author."

'Thelma: A life in pictures', which was published by MacIntyre Purcell Publishing, can be purchased at any major book store, or on Amazon.

Thelma Pepper sadly passed away this past Tuesday, December 1, in Saskatoon at the age of 100. Pepper received the Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2014 and was awarded the Saskatchewan Order of Merit in 2018.
